What Makes California Great for Solar

Energy Concepts California

According to the Solar Energy Industries Association, California is the number one state in the country for installing solar panels. The state has more than 6.5 million homes using solar power to generate their electricity and more than 25,000 MegaWatts of solar capacity installed. What’s even crazier is that the next state on the rankings has less than 700,000 homes with solar and only 5,500 MegaWatts of solar capacity installed. California is just that much farther along on the journey towards energy efficiency.

Sunny Days

One reason solar power is more popular in California compared to other states is the number of sunny days we experience on average every year. There’s an average of 205 sunny days in the state of California every year, but this number changes when you look at specific regions. For instance, in Fresno, the average is closer to 270 sunny days per year. As we know, sunny days directly affect the energy potential of your solar system.

Incentives

California has long been at the forefront of environmental protection and the fight against climate change, so it is no surprise that the state would incentivize its residents to join these initiatives.

Not only does the federal government offer financial incentives in the form of rebates and tax credits, but the state of California offers additional savings. The most prominent being the California Solar Initiative which offers cash back for installing solar panels on your home or your business.
